Painted in 1961, and purchased in 1962 from the Ashgate Gallery by Sir Robert Braithwaite Marshall, who passed away in 2000, this exceptional piece comes directly from his estate, passed down through his family. Sir Robert Braithwaite Marshall, KCB, MBE, was a distinguished British civil servant. Born in Kent on January 10, 1920, the son of an officer in the Indian Civil Service, he spent much of his childhood in Switzerland. Later in life, he became the chairman of Farnham Art College.
