Jonathan Armigel Wade
British born 1960

Jonathan Armigel Wade, a former military officer turned accomplished painter, has led a diverse and intriguing life. Born and educated at Lancing College, he continued his academic journey at St Andrews University, where he earned an MA in 1983. Following this, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, gaining valuable experiences in various locations, including Berlin, Canada, and active service during the Gulf War of 1990/91. His military career concluded with his retirement as a Captain in May 1991.

Post-retirement, Jonathan embraced his passion for art and transitioned into a second career as a painter. In 1986, he married Marie-Louise Maze, the granddaughter of the esteemed Franco/British painter Paul Maze. Currently residing and working in the village of Irby in N.E Lincolnshire, UK, Jonathan has established himself as a prominent artist with a distinctive style and a rich artistic background.

Jonathan Armigel Wade's artistic endeavours have taken him on various painting trips, including ventures to India (1979), Pakistan (1982 & 1983), Bosnia (1994), and Iraq (2004). Notably, he has chosen to use his middle name in addition to his first to avoid confusion with another painter named Jonathan Wade.

A non-affiliate of any artists' organisations or groups, Jonathan has crafted a unique identity in the art world. His paintings are showcased in numerous British regimental museums and hold a significant presence in the National Army Museum in London. Additionally, private collections in the USA, UK, and Europe boast his artwork.

Jonathan's distinct frames, often painted scarlet on the rear, reflect his attention to detail and personal touch. His artistic influences encompass a range of renowned painters, including Claude Lorrain, Turner, Gainsborough, Stanley Spencer, and Carel Weight.

Over the years, Jonathan Armigel Wade has exhibited his works at various prestigious venues, such as the Paris Salon (1991), Cognac (1991 and 1992), Clarges Gallery London (1993, 94, 96, 2000, 2004), Alchemy Gallery London (1998), Sherwin Gallery Essex (2007, 08, 09), Arndean Gallery Cork St, London (2008), and several UK provincial galleries. His exhibitions have contributed to establishing him as a respected and accomplished artist in both national and international art circles.
